Win builds culture!
Saturday we took on Saints. Saints were winless and our only win for the season came when we last met.
It was always going to be a struggle as we were completely undermanned. So much so that myself, coach Robbie Wilson and assistant Darren Curyer all had to play to make up numbers. Average age of our team jumped dramatically. We all hoped just to sit on the bench and be used only in an emergency but not to be. I ended up playing the entire game, Robbie played long numbers also.
We started well but were inaccurate in front of goal (I was guilty of missing one too). We led by 7 points at qtr time. By half time we had increased that to 14 points. To Saints credit they hung in there and they had a fair crack.
It was a tight final term after Saints kicked the first 2 goals to close the gap. A late steadying goal by Jim Dixon (Gumby) saw Towns prevail by 10 points.
On ballers Sean Gregory , Scott Wilson and Beau Leach provided plenty of drive. Jimmy Rouse rucked tirelessly all day. Up forward Clint Bell booty 6 goals (could have kicked a few more too) and Zak Austin chimed in with 2. Lyle Carter was influential on his wing. Matt Harris & Karl Bedford were steady down back.
