Towns took on reigning premiers Cable Beach.
Unfortunately we were without our skipper Rhonen Maher- out injured, last years best & fairest Ash Spowart, his brother and full forward Clint Bell (went to their mums 50th in Gero) and Damian Enosa who played his first colts game for Claremont which is a great achievement.
Arguably our best player Sean Gregory was also missing and is out for the season after having screws inserted in his broken hand.
So that being said we were always going to be up against it but the boys started well. By half time there was only 2 goals in it and we had our fair share of the play without being able to capitalise.
The second half was a different story where Cable Beach dominated our under strength team. We just didn’t have the answers , although we did have plenty of questions for the umpires (was appalling but not the cause of our loss).
We ended up going down by 81 points which was very disappointing after a very competitive first half.
Chaz Gardiner battled hard all night, as did stand in skipper Ash Paul and Shae Butler. Damo Crispin also worked hard and presented all night (was a Friday night game).
