Towns struggle to find goals
In a drier afternoon compared to the rain the week before, Towns took on an in form Saints.
Towns started slowly and Saints kicking with the aid of a couple of goal wind, led 3.2 to 3 behinds at ¼ time.
The second quarter, Towns found more of the ball but just couldn’t convert, having had more time in its forward half, on the scoreboard. The Saints on the other hand were extremely accurate kicking 4 straight goals to 2.3. Saints led 7.2 to 2.6 at the main break, so we had our opportunities.
The third term went a little pear shaped for Towns. Despite kicking 3 goals, the Saints kicked 5.5 for the quarter. The three ¾ time siren was met with a good old fashion melee as Towns players flew the flag for its skipper Rhonen Maher, who was felled with a head high bump, going unrewarded by the celebrity; Stevie Wonder umpire. Somehow after the scuffle the Saints ended up with a free kick which they converted for an after the siren goal. The boys were definitely fired up – so were the coaches, and supporters for that matter, with a sentiment of having been on the wrong end of decisions all day.
The final term saw Townies have a crack, but Saints again won the quarter despite Twns having a similar amount of scoring shots (4.2 to 3.2). Saints winning by 48 pts (Hoping to have got it right this time Hutts) 16.9. 105 to Towns 8.9. 57.
SOS Gregory again was outstanding and was ably supported by Sam Belfrage down back. Chaz Gardiner, Shae Butler & Ash Spowart tried all day on the ball. Spowarts brother Clint, booted another 3 goals to go with his 7 last week. Damo Crispin chimed in for 2 goals and took a number of marks across half forward.
Big match this Friday night versus arch rivals Bulls.
