Rd 4. Bidgy BBQ Towns with sizzling pace
Towns took on the fast running and undefeated Bidyadanga Emus last Saturday.
Unfortunately we went in without Centre Half Forward Damian Crispin and hardnut on-baller Glen Dearle (both due to work commitments).
To make matters worse, we lost skipper Rhonen Maher early in the first term to a back injury.
Bidgy jumped out of the blocks and booted 2 quick goals with fast ball movement from the middle. Towns responded with their first push forward .
The Emus were up and about leading 5.4 to 2.1 at quarter time.
The second term we tightened up and didn’t allow Bidgy easy ball movement. Unfortunately our dominance was not reflected on the scoreboard as Bidgy kicked 3.1 for the quarter to Towns 2.3. We trailed by 25 points at half time but a couple of certainties missed late in the term could have had us a lot closer.
The third term Bidgy found another gear and dominated out of the centre, putting a lot of pressure on our backline. The Emus kicked 7.4 for the term to the Towns 3.1. It was pleasing to see we were still able to hit the scoreboard despite their dominance.
The final term was again Bidgy’s as they kicked 4.3 to our 1.3. In the end it was a 71 point win to Bidgy 19.12. 126 to 8.7. 55.
Clint Bell was a lone star up forward, kicking 7 of our 8 goals. Sean Gregory was again outstanding in the backline. Matt Kelly and Shae Butler tried hard all day, as did Ash Spowart.
Next week we hope to bounce back against an in form Saints.
